Karin Baqi
Karin Baqi (she/her) began her legal career practising immigration and refugee law at Waldman & Associates, where she also worked on high profile national security matters. She spent the following decade in Ontario’s legal aid clinic system, representing diverse clients in immigration, income security and youth justice matters, and frequently delivering workshops and training on issues of migrant rights, access to justice and anti-oppression. In addition, she has represented individuals and organizations in complex Charter matters, and has appeared before various tribunals and courts, including the Supreme Court of Canada.
Karin has been active in a number of campaigns to secure safe access to services for precarious-status migrants, working alongside directly impacted migrant communities. She co-created Know your Rights educational materials, including a toolkit for migrants at risk of immigration arrest and detention, and a popular education workshop for social service providers seeking to support them.
Karin currently works in professional regulation as Investigation Counsel at the Law Society of Ontario, where she has a focus on investigating complaints related to service and representation in immigration matters.
