International experience and a passion for the arts fuel this alumnus

"Migration and immigration have surrounded me my whole life," says Elliott Cheung, a regulated Canadian immigration consultant (RCIC) working in Vancouver. Cheung, a graduate of the Graduate Diploma in Immigration and Citizenship Law (GDipICL), is now working at a law firm specializing in immigration issues. He came to immigration consulting via an education in the arts, and a journey that took him from his home in British Columbia to Taiwan, and back again.

From San Francisco's DA office to Québec City, credibility is key for this alumna

A passion for anti-corruption law, including interning in the criminal division of the San Francisco District Attorney's office, inspired Véronique Hunter to pursue a career in immigration.

After returning from San Francisco to her birthplace of Québec City — "I was born as an Afro-Canadian-Québécoise-American," she says — Hunter chose immigration as a new and meaningful direction in her career.

Reuniting families is this grad's mission

"This job really helps you make a difference in people's lives."

For Mathai Nooranal, helping families is one of the key motivators driving his career as a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC). He runs his own practice, Fairworld Immigration Consulting; his expertise has also led to additional consulting work for another firm. Nooranal began looking at immigration consulting after becoming a permanent resident in 2019.

Improving the immigration experience motivates this alumna

Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultants (RCICs) come from many different backgrounds — for Anne Lui, her own experiences in the system led her to the profession as a way to help others. "As a newcomer to Canada myself, I went through an immigration journey that took seven years," she says. Having seen the risks posed by unregulated consultants, she recognized how vulnerable immigration applicants could be. "After spending more than 20 years in the financial industry, I felt a strong calling to start a second career where I could make a meaningful difference."
